El prestigioso paisajista e ingeniero forestal francés Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier fue el encargado de reorganizar el primitivo Parque Público de María Luisa (que se limitaba a los terrenos donados por la Infanta en 1893) para su incorporación al recinto de la Exposición, entonces Hispanoamericana y prevista para 1914. Ese año, tras tres de trabajos, el Parque se abrió de nuevo al público, aunque la Exposición había sido pospuesta a 1917.
En 1915, se decidió ampliar el Parque por el sur y por el este. Al sur Forestier diseñó el encuentro con el Huerto de Mariana, trazando caminos convergentes a la fachada posterior del Pabellón Mudéjar; al este, con la Plaza de España, situada en terrenos del Prado de San Sebastián, mediante una avenida arbolada y una glorieta.

In 1915, it was decided to expand the Park to the south and east. To the south Forestier designed the conjunction with the Mariana Garden, drawing paths converging to the rear façade of the Mudejar Pavilion; to the east, it lead up to the Plaza de España located in the Prado de San Sebastián through a tree-lined avenue and a circle.
The prestigious French forestry and landscaping engineer Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier was assigned to transform the original María Luisa Public Park, the lands donated by the Infanta in 1893, and incorporating it into the Exhibition location, then called the Hispanic site. In 1914, after three significant alterations to the grounds had been completed, the Park reopened to the public. The Exhibition had been postponed to 1917.
