Torcuato Luca de Tena and Álvarez-Ossorio was a Sevillian businessman, lawyer, and journalist and, as a deputy for Seville advocated the initiative to hold an exhibition viewing it a way to solve the city’s problems showing his regenerationist sentiments.
To achieve this, he turned to the media which he had founded, such as the illustrated magazine Blanco y Negro, the ABC newspaper of Madrid, Gente Menuda, and the weekly illustrated Actualidades. During the Exhibition, he also founded the Seville edition of ABC. Months before his death, King Alfonso XIII granted him the title of Ist. Marquis de Luca de Tena, for the services rendered to the nation and the Monarchy.
