The HeadArchitect

(1911-1926)

Aníbal González Álvarez-Ossorio was the Head Architect of the Exhibition between 1911 and 1926, after winning the contest of the General Project of the Exhibition. He resigned in 1926 after his disagreement with the Royal Commissioner José Cruz Conde.

His first works were the Plaza de América and its three pavilions: Pavilion for Industry, Manufacturing and Decorative Arts (Mudejar Pavilion); Pavilion for Fine Arts (Renaissance Pavilion), and The Royal Pavilion. His most emblematic building is the Plaza de España, the main reference of the style known as Seville Regionalism. The most notable among his non-executed projects are the Hispanoamericana University and the entrance arch to the enclosure.

This popular and renowned architect died on May 30, 1929. The Exhibition had just opened.
