Joaquín y Serafín
of the hymn
The brothers Serafín and Joaquín Álvarez Quintero were the authors of the lyrics of the hymn of the Exhibition, with music by F. Alonso.
Their comedies called sainetes, librettos of zarzuela and drama portrayed in the costumbrista and regionalist context of the time, were very popular. Los Duendes de Sevilla premiered at the Lope de Vega Theater in the middle of the contest and was one of their well-known comedies represented by songs about the graces of the city,
Since the onset of the initiative to hold an Exhibition, the Álvarez Quintero brothers utilized their prestige to promote the project in Spain and Latin America. To recognize their contributions, Aníbal González built a beautiful monument carrying their name in the María Luisa Park, designed by Santiago Martínez.
